Opportunity to get involved with helping Aberdeen renew its Fairtrade City status
Aberdeen City has been a Fairtrade City since 2004 and will shortly have to submit an application to renew its status. A key preliminary step is to set up a stand-alone Fairtrade Steering Group which will make the formal application.
It is clearly of significance for the City to retain this accolade and the application needs to be of a high standard. Hence a committed competent group is required to drive it on. The membership of this group has to be broad-based with representatives of the voluntary sector, business, and education.
Many businesses in Aberdeen and the north-east are committed to Fairtrade or have a strong corporate responsibility agenda and we want to provide an opportunity for two or three individuals from such businesses to get involved with this group – initially for six months or so.
We don’t envisage too big a time commitment, but it is important that at this stage in the process we get people who are interested in the idea and prepared to commit to taking it forward.
