Famous designer Wayne Hemingway to speak at RGU design master classOne of the UK’s most inspirational and talented designers, Wayne Hemingway MBE, will be in Aberdeen on Wednesday 5 October exclusively speaking at Robert Gordon University. Members of the general public plus the business, design and education communities are currently being invited to attend the inspirational evening seminar entitled ‘Designing the Future’.
The lecture is the last in a series of three master classes, funded by the Design Council and run by the university’s Centre for Design and Innovation (c4di), all following the theme of Designing for the Future. The master class is free to attend and places must be booked in advance. Following on from the lecture will be a Q&A session and VIP reception.
In his lecture, Wayne will address his perspective on how design can help businesses prepare for the future based on his experience of developing new brands and companies in the world of design from fashion and textiles to interiors, products and events.
Wayne Hemingway is foremost renowned for founding leading fashion label Red or Dead, which gained global acclamation and won the British Fashion Council's Street Style Designer of the Year award three years running before he sold the label, turning his attention to the design of social housing.
The inception of Hemingway Design in 1999 specialises in affordable housing with projects including the design and planning through to architecture and marketing of The Staiths, a multi award winning 750 property housing project on Tyneside.
Wayne’s design prowess is widely recognised, having been awarded an MBE for services to the design industry, a Doctorate in design and is on the Trustee Board of The Design Council and The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment as well as having numerous design books published.
Wayne states, “I believe that design can be a force for good in terms of liveability, economic health and sustainability. The whole idea of being a designer is to improve things. We are not just here to create another product.”
Professor Julian Malins, c4di project director, adds “The purpose of the Designing for the Future master classes is to explore some of the ways in which design can assist businesses with their vision and growth for the future. We have managed to secure very influential guest speakers who have vast knowledge in both design and growing a business to impart not only their passion and wisdom but also their first hand experience.
The lecture, which is free to attend, will take place on Wednesday 5 October commencing at 6pm at the Robert Gordon University’s Aberdeen Business School, on the Garthdee campus. Places are limited and so delegates are requested to book places to avoid disappointment by contacting Chris Rigby c.rigby@rgu.ac.uk or on 01224 263632. 175 views
