Fireworks extravaganza promises to start Winter Festival with a bangAberdeen City Council’s Winter Festival celebrations are set to go off with a bang on Saturday (November 5) at the city’s annual Fireworks Display. The pyrotechnic extravaganza on Guy Fawkes Night begins with firewalkers at 7pm before entertainers hit the streets, performing magic tricks and balloon modelling on the Beach Boulevard.
At 7pm, daring charity fundraisers will face their fears and walk across hot coals, taking part in Inspire's Fundraising Firewalk to raise money for the local charity.
The main event will begin at 8pm, with a spectacular colourful, high-flying 20 minute aerial fireworks display, all set to music.
Depute Provost Bill Cormie will lead the countdown to the launch of the fantastic display at Aberdeen beach.
Councillor Cormie said: “The annual fireworks display is always a fantastic occasion and much loved by people of all ages across the city. I am delighted to be leading the countdown for what I am sure will be a night to remember and a fantastic way to kick start this year’s Winter Festival.”
Inverurie-based Fireworx Scotland will be responsible for this year’s pyrotechnic feats once again with Northsound 2 presenter John McRuvie MC for the event.
Catering and toilet facilities will be provided and vendors will be selling a selection of items, including glow sticks.
Members of the public are reminded that they should not bring their own fireworks, other than sparklers, to the display. And with weather forecasters currently predicting clear skies to watch the display it will be cold, so spectators should wrap up warm.
The best vantage points for the display will be along Beach Boulevard and Beach Esplanade.
In order to ease traffic congestion help Park and Ride bus services will be available from several points across the city offering drop off and pick-up points on Cotton Street.
The service routes will operate from Kingswells from 5.55pm every 10 minutes and from Bridge of Don every 10 minutes from 6.10pm. Buses will also leave Calder Park every 20 minutes, from 6.30pm. Prices for the service will be £1.50 for adults and £1 for children.
