FIRST CLASS TRAVEL BOOST FOR ST MACHAR PUPILS THANKS TO FIRSTGROUPPupils from St Machar Academy embarked on a once in a lifetime school excursion on Monday (26 September) to Loch Eil, near Fort William, courtesy of FirstGroup, the Aberdeen based transport giant. 105 pupils were picked up early morning by three FirstGroup coaches and were transported to the ‘Outward Bound’ centre in the Highlands where the pupils will take part in a number of exciting and challenging activities.
Jim Purdie, Depute Head Teacher, said: “We travelled up to Loch Eil in style thanks to First – we are very grateful to the company for providing our transport.”
He continued: “The pupils experience all sorts of new challenges by participating in activities such as climbing, abseiling, canoeing and hill walking but the main purpose of the trip is to raise confidence and foster team building and communication skills. Having organised similar trips in previous years I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and facilities at the centre and the challenges that Outward Bound provides and also the benefits that our pupils gain from taking part.”
Avril Gill, FirstGroup’s Marketing Manager, said the company was happy to help. “We enjoy a very good relationship with Outward Bound having supported them for more than 16 years.
“I’m pleased that we have been able to provide St Machar Academy with some assistance for its Outward Bound trip. I hope the pupils enjoy the week, grow in confidence and draw inspiration from their experiences.”
105 pupils aged between 12 and 14 were collected by three FirstGroup coaches at 8am, Monday (September 26) and transported to Loch Eil, near Fort William. The coaches will transport the pupils back to Aberdeen on Friday (September 30).
The Outward Bound Trust is an educational charity which helps as many young people as possible access safe, adventurous experiences through which they can raise their self-esteem, realise their full potential and achieve more than they ever thought possible. 83 views
