Flood protection in Fettercairn – proposed alleviation measures to go on showResidents of Fettercairn will have the chance to view proposals for flood alleviation measures in the village next week. (July 12) Aberdeenshire Council has submitted an application for planning permission to modify existing agricultural grazing land in the village.
It is intended that this would act as a temporary flood water storage area at times of high flow in the Burn of Cauldcots.
New banks will be created to help store flood water in the Haugh Field, before releasing it at a controlled rate once water levels in the burn have subsided.
An informal information session about the proposed project will take place from 3-7.45pm in the Village Hall on July 12 for members of the public.
It is a chance for people to see the plans and ask questions about how the scheme will work and what it will look like.
“This is an important opportunity for residents to see the plans for reducing flood risk in the village and find out about the next stages in the process,” said Kincardine and Mearns area manager, Willie Munro.
In addition to detailed plans for a flood storage area in Fettercairn, there will also be a display of flood prevention products which could help protect homes.
This will be of interest not just to Fettercairn villagers but also to residents and businesses outwith the village concerned about flooding and how to reduce the risk.
