Flooding update 9/8/11

Aberdeenshire Council is advising residents affected by the flood warnings and precautionary evacuation in Huntly that it is safe to return home.

Overnight water levels on the River Deveron have continued to drop and it is hoped this will continue over the next few days.

Flood warnings for Huntly, Kintore and Turriff have all been downgraded and are not expect to be put back in place at this time.

Rain is, however, expected to continue to fall over the next few days, and we will continue to work with our partner agencies to monitor the situation and take necessary action if required.

Philip McKay, Head of Roads and Landscape Services, said: “Our officers on the ground will continue to monitor the situation very closely, but we would also ask that residents remain vigilant and let us know immediately if they have any concerns about the water levels over the next few days as well.”

SEPA is continuing to monitor the situation and will provide flood information updates regarding rising river levels via their website and hotline service.
