Former CEO Inspires Memorial Bench

The inspirational former Chief Executive of a North East charity is to have a memorial bench unveiled in her honour at Café Coast on Friday.

Catriona McPhee-Smith took the reins at Inspire in 2001 and under her leadership the charity became a pioneer of social care for people with learning disabilities.  It was her vision to create the Centre of Excellence on Aberdeen’s Beach Boulevard which houses Inspire’s Head Office and its social enterprise, Café Coast.  Mrs McPhee-Smith died in April this year after a long battle with cancer.

The memorial bench, which will sit on Café Coast’s terrace, was built at Garden Craft by people with disabilities supported by Inspire.  Attending the event, will be Catriona’s husband, Kevin McPhee-Smith.

“I’m delighted to be involved with the unveiling of this memorial bench”, said Mr McPhee-Smith, “Catriona touched the hearts of so many people and in particular was a great crusader for the rights of people with disabilities.  Her wish was to help the people supported by Inspire live full and valued lives within their own communities and this bench demonstrates the success she achieved in obtaining this goal”.

Donating the bench will be Malcolm and David, two of the individuals who are supported by Inspire. Together with colleagues from Garden Craft, they created this bench in memory of an inspirational lady who had a fundamental impact on the lives of so many people with disabilities in the North East of Scotland.
