FORMER PARTNER RETURNS TO PAULL & WILLIAMSONS AS CONSULTANTAberdeen’s leading commercial law firm Paull & Williamsons has welcomed back Jim Tierney as a consultant to its dispute resolution and health, safety and environmental divisions following upon his retirement after an 11-year period serving as a sheriff. Mr Tierney originally joined the firm as an assistant in 1979 after 10 years in the central belt, becoming a partner in 1982. He was head of litigation for many years leading various complex and high profile cases such as Piper Alpha, Ocean Odyssey and Braer.
In 2000, Mr Tierney moved to a career in the judicial system starting as a sheriff in Perth before taking a position in Aberdeen in 2003 where in addition to his general duties he sat in the Commercial Court from 2004 until his retirement earlier this year.
He returns to Paull & Williamsons with a wealth of experience dealing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court with criminal trials and sentencing under the Health and Safety at Work Act and environmental legislation.
Managing partner Scott Allan said: “Jim’s knowledge in commercial dispute resolution and health, safety and environment matters, combined with his experience as a sheriff, is unrivalled. This addition to the team underlines the firm’s commitment to provide, from its Aberdeen headquarters, class leading legal services to clients in the oil and gas and property development sectors.”
Mr Tierney commented, “Having spent so many enjoyable years at Paull & Williamsons I am delighted to be going back following my retirement as a sheriff. The firm’s reputation for services in Health & Safety and Environmental matters and in commercial dispute resolution is first class and I look forward to working closely with the team to maintain that.” 75 views
