FOUR YEAR OLD SAMANTHA – BORN TO BE A BUS DRIVERCity bus operator, First in Aberdeen, recently played host to a four year-old girl who has a passion for buses, as part of its support of Save the Children, the company’s national charity partner. The charity is encouraging the UK to get involved in its latest campaign – ‘the five year old me was born to be’, which is designed to encourage children to realise their ambitions.
First backed the fundraising initiative by inviting four year-old Samantha Middleton, who was ‘Born to Be’ a bus driver, to its headquarters in King Street, Aberdeen. Samantha was treated to a VIP tour of the depot including a close inspection of a few of First’s 200 strong bus fleet.
Samantha’s Mum, Paula Middleton, said: “Samantha simply loves buses! ‘Bus’ was one of her first words, she dashes to the window whenever a bus passes, and she simply loves travelling by bus. Samantha was certainly ‘born to be’ a bus driver.”
Samantha said: “I want to be a bus driver when I grow up. It was really exciting sitting in the driver’s seat of a big bus – the double decker is my favourite.”
David Stewart, Managing Director of First in Aberdeen, said: “It was a pleasure to have Samantha visit us and live out her bus driving ambition as part of Save the Children’s campaign.
“Save the Children works tirelessly to ensure children in the UK and all over the world have the chance to fulfil their potential and it’s fantastic that, as a company, we’re able to help.”
FirstGroup recently announced that it has donated £150k worth of advertising space on its buses throughout the UK specifically supporting Save the Children’s ‘Born to Shine’ fundraising efforts. This follows a £260k donation of advertising space to the charity earlier in the year bringing the 2011 total to £410k.
Since partnering with Save the Children in 2007, FirstGroup has raised almost £4.5million in donations and in-kind support. 86 views
