G5 TECHNOLOGIES DUO SCALE THE HEIGHTS FOR BEFRIEND A CHILD

Colleagues from an Aberdeen-based IT solutions provider are to pull on their hiking boots and strap on their rucksacks later this month in the name of charity.

The intrepid duo, from G5 Technologies, will scale Mount Snowdon, in Snowdonia National Park, Wales, on Saturday, June 25, to raise funds for local charity, Befriend A Child.

G5 Technologies Director, Steve Brand, and Office Manager, Kate Wemyss, chose to climb the 3,560ft mountain in aid of the Aberdeen-based organisation, after hearing about the fantastic work it carries out in and around the North-east.

Steve says he is looking forward to the challenge of scaling the highest mountain in Wales.

He said:” We successfully tackled Ben Nevis last year, raising money for another local charity, and enjoyed it so much that we decided we would set ourselves another fundraising challenge for this year.

“We chose Mount Snowdon as it is known for having some of the best views in Britain as well as challenging terrain. Tackling a wonder of nature like this is an experience in itself, but doing it for charity also gives you that extra incentive to reach the top.

“We have set ourselves a target of raising £1,500 and, thanks to the fantastic support we have received from friends, family and colleagues so far we are on target to achieve this.”

Karen Farquhar, Chief Executive of Befriend A Child, added: “We are continually surprised by the wonderful and challenging ideas that people come up with to support Befriend A Child and are extremely grateful to every single one of our supporters.

“We wish Steve and Kate all the very best for their climb, and hope the weather is kind to them!”

Established in 1975, Befriend A Child is Scotland's oldest befriending service for disadvantaged children. Working with social workers, care homes, health visitors, and other charities, Befriend A Child supports children aged 4-16 and continues to work with them up until the age of 18, if required.

The scheme became a registered charity in 1991 and in 2010 worked with more than 170 children in Aberdeen City - its largest number to date.
