Gaddafi Orders Abduction of ForeignersTRIPOLI – Colonel Gaddafi has reportedly called on his followers to abduct foreigners, including media workers and diplomatic staff in a possible attempt to exert further pressure on rebel fighters and the international community. Foreign personnel are advised to exercise extreme caution and to minimise their movements around Tripoli. Sporadic fighting is continuing, with the areas surrounding the Bab al-Aziziyah compound, Rixos hotel and south of the ring road currently considered most at risk, although the whole city should be considered potentially hazardous. There is widespread small arms fire, RPG attacks and indirect fire (rockets and mortars), whilst looting, opportunistic criminality and celebratory gunfire are also being reported. AKE has raised the risk rating for Tripoli on Global Intake amid the deteriorating security environment. The city is now ranked at AKE63, making it the most hazardous city in the world. It is likely that fighting will decrease over the coming weeks, which will warrant a reduction of the rating, but for now organisations with exposure in the city are advised to monitor conditions very closely. 105 views
