GENESIS AND CHAMPION TECHNOLOGIES SCOOP THE PRIZES IN TOUCH RUGBYThe Scottish Touch Association hosted the sixth event in the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon. The Touch Rugby Challenge sponsored by Hunting, held at Woodside Sports Complex on Saturday 16th July. The rain dampened everything apart from team spirit as the teams competed to become Touch Rugby Champions and win those all-important decathlon points! Halliburton, Shell, Maersk, Sparrows Offshore, Centrica, Anderson Anderson Brown, Prosafe and Hunting, in Leagues 1 and 2, all made it through to the final stages of the tournament after breezing through the pool stages with strong performances throughout but it wasn’t enough to make it into the Grand Final! As ever it was a hotly fought out Grand Final in League 1, with Wood Group and Genesis battling it out after both teams gave commendable performances all through the tournament. In the end it was Genesis who came out victorious with a try in the dying few seconds of the game and become champions with a 5-4 win. In League 2, the Grand Final did not disappoint with Champion Technologies and TAQA both fighting until the last minutes of the game to win! In the end it was Champion Technologies who took first place winning with 5 tries to 0. These results mean that it’s all change once again in both leagues. Wood Group are sitting top of League 1, with Baker Hughes coming up strong in 2nd place and Shell in third. In League 2, PwC are now defending their position at the top of the table with Champion Technologies and Hess taking 2nd and 3rd place. The Touch Rugby Challenge has been supported by the Scottish Touch Association for many years and STA President, Peter Faassen de Heer said, "The Scottish Touch Association is proud to partner activitymix. Together we have again showcased Touch to a large number of people, giving them a taste of a sport that's accessible to all, keeps you active and healthy and most importantly is a lot a fun. We know that it's through events like this that people get exposed to the sport which helps to grow the game. In return activitymix help us to invest in our coaching and referee network to ensure that we keep developing." The yearlong tournament sees employees form companies across the city, lock horns in ten sporting challenges. Teams participate in free training sessions with community based sports clubs in the lead up to the challenges and participants are encouraged to sustain their involvement in the sport after the one day challenge. The next Decathlon Challenge will be the Canoeing Challenge sponsored by TAQA at Knockburn Loch in Banchory on Saturday 6th August and registration for this event is now open! It’s still anyone’s game as we head into the 7th Challenge! 210 views
