Genius loci in 30 seconds

  • You can’t fail to notice the criticism of Aberdeen City centre. It’s easy to be critical of others, but have you got any better ideas? What would you do if you were king for a day?
  • We challenged 150 of the Chamber’s members and partners to write an ‘independent vision of the future for Aberdeen city centre’.
  • We received about 50 replies to our original challenge and persistent reminders.
  • 30 accepted the challenge.
  • 20 delivered an independent vision and these are reproduced here for your interest and admiration -starting on page 13.
  • Two of our ‘visionaries’ received a special commendation from our guest editor, Derek Tucker - congratulations to both Alex Drummond of Lloyds Banking Group, and John Michie, Partner Michies Chemist, for drafting impressive visions.
  • We received a lot of encouragement for the project from members and well-wishers who thought the project was a great idea, but did not have the time to capture and describe their vision.
  • The Chamber wants to turn the debate about the city centre from the negative to the positive. We should stop talking about what’s wrong, and concentrate our efforts on putting it right. We applaud the action of the Lord Provost, Peter Stephen, in launching the civic pride initiative - Aberdeen First.

Don’t just read this and say “aye right!” ontribute here

You will get the city centre you deserve ...
