Getting The Most Out Of Offshore Europe

Offshore Europe, which takes place in Aberdeen on 6th to 8th of September, is a hugely important event for the city.

Taking place bi-annually, the exhibition attracts a global audience of engineers, technical specialists, industry leaders and experts to share ideas, debate and promote technology and services.

In 2009 the exhibition and conference attracted almost 50,000 visitors and over 1,400 exhibitors from 94 countries and this year it is likely to pull in even bigger crowds.

At such a high profile event, there’s huge networking and promotional opportunities for businesses, so knowing how to make the most of the exhibition is vital. Meeting new clients means potentially winning new business.

Thorpe Molloy Recruitment, who is exhibiting for a second time, will be on Aberdeen City and Shire’s stand this year. Simon Chinn of the company’s engineering division says there are advantages to sharing space.

“Participating at the exhibition on the Aberdeen City and Shire Pavilion is a terrific opportunity for us because it is a striking, highly visible double deck stand which will attract a high footfall. Exhibition space on such a high impact communal area will provide a focal point for meetings with our clients and candidates. We also believe that the positioning affirms our long term commitment to working in the north east of Scotland.”

Offshore Europe is a high profile event which takes place in the full glare of publicity and under the scrutiny of competitors. Attending is a big investment of time and money but Thorpe Molloy Recruitment believe it’s worth every penny.

“In addition to showcasing our services, it is our objective to create new business and increase awareness of our Engineering division. At the last exhibition we met with new clients and generated a high number of candidate leads. Some of the technical seminars are particularly useful for members of my engineering team, but generally, Offshore Europe also offers a wide range of good networking events.” says Simon.

It’s vital that your exhibition runs like clockwork making maximum use of the commercial opportunities available and this can only be achieved with significant forward planning and attention to detail. Simon continues,

“Like every exhibitor, we’ve been planning our participation at the show for months, setting our objectives, preparing marketing materials, considering promotional events right down to the obvious detail of do we have enough business cards! That’s been another benefit of stand sharing, the Aberdeen City and Shire team has provided good support material and timely prompts to ensure we are well organised.”

But it’s not just the exhibitors who have to be well prepared. Although Offshore Europe is a technology showcase, it is also an opportunity for job seekers to learn more about companies who are recruiting in the north east. Simon explains,

“Many of the larger exhibitors will have members of their HR or recruitment teams on stand duty because they will be expecting a high number of employment enquiries from visitors. To help distinguish yourself, and give a good first impression, it’s important that you come prepared, dressed smartly and with a copy of your CV.”

“From previous experience, we know many candidates will use Offshore Europe as an opportunity to ask advice and register with us. We are particularly interested in candidates with engineering and management experience, but across our other divisions, we have opportunities for staff at all levels in permanent and temporary roles.”
