Grampian Food Forum Open Meeting – Supplying UK Retail MarketsDate: Tuesday November 1 Venue: Thistle Airport Hotel, Argyll Road, Dyce, AB21 0AF Time: 3-6pm Chaired by Keith Whyte of Mitchells and Chairman of the Grampian Food Forum Operations Group, this event is aimed at local food and drink producers who are currently supplying or looking to supply the UK retail marketplace.
Andrew Niven, INSIGHTS Manager for Scotland Food & Drink will set the scene by using up to the minute market intelligence and research to look at upcoming major trends that will dictate the way that consumers shop and retailers sell.
Sarah Mackie, head of local food for Tesco plc will provide an overview of Tesco plc's strategy for local food and drink and also give a broad view of the retail operation and an insight into customer spending. As part of the presentation, Sarah will give an update on the Dobbies food operation and how this fits with Tesco.
JG Ross (Bakers) Ltd has been a supplier to Tesco since 1997 and has built up a good working relationship, supplying 17 stores across Scotland. Director of the business, Graeme Ross will give a brief overview of their business and will then inform delegates about their relationship with Tesco including the stores and range supplied and will also highlight some of the benefits and challenges of working with multiple retailers.
Delegates will also hear from Kent Business School regarding Dunnhumby consumer insight on how businesses can benefit from the Tesco Clubcard data, which provides a rich source of market information and purchasing behaviour.
Patrick Hughes will inform about the forthcoming Scotland Food & Drink UK Market Development Programme. The programme will focus on the current UK market opportunities and aims to equip those within food and drink businesses with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve their growth ambitions in the UK marketplace.
The programme will commence with a special recruitment event at the Finavon Hotel, near Forfar on Wednesday 2nd November and will be followed by three additional workshops running until March 2012. The Open Meeting is free of charge to representatives from food and drink companies based in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray and is being delivered by the Grampian Food Forum in conjunction with Scotland Food & Drink. There will be a buffet provided to allow time to meet the guest speakers and fellow delegates.
