International welding group Serimax has secured a major contract to provide 62 subsea spools for Technip

Serimax has established a purpose built quayside fabrication facility at Invergordon in the north of Scotland to manage and deliver the project which is expected to last up to nine months.

The workscope includes the fabrication, welding, NDE, coating and high pressure hydrostatic testing of the spools which range from ¾”to 10” diameter and are a combination of X65/super duplex 25% Cr materials.

Specially designed neoprene lined pipe stands aid fit-up and reduce the risk of coating damage during the fabrication process, while mobile covered work stations minimise weather ingress during final assembly, welding and coating on the quayside.

Serimax regional manager for North Europe, Les Dickson, said: “This is the latest subsea spool fabrication project we have carried out on behalf of Technip and builds on the strong relationship we have established going back many years.

“The Cromarty Firth Port Authority base at Invergordon is located close to our Evanton base and provides extra capacity to allow us to complete the project on schedule while the deepwater harbour facilities are ideal for direct load-out to the installation vessel.”
