JCI Aberdeen Event to Support Monty’s Maggie’s AppealJunior Chamber International Aberdeen (JCI) has launched a quiz night and disco to raise money for the Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal, its charity of the year for 2011. The event, which is open to all members of the public, will take place on Friday 24 June at Pittodrie and will be hosted by STV presenters Chris Harvey and Laura Goodwin. This is part of a year-long commitment to raise funds and JCI plans to run a number of events throughout the year to assist the appeal in raising £3m to bring a Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre to Aberdeen to help families affected by the disease.
Steven Wilson, president of JCI Aberdeen says, “The quiz night and disco is set to be a great event and we hope to raise as much funds as possible for this most deserved appeal. This cause is one very close to my heart and we aim to raise as much money as we can.”
The aim of the fundraising is to build a Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen. It will be based on the grounds of Foresterhill Hospital and will offer support to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer in the region as well as their family and friends. Colin Montgomerie established the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation in memory of his mother who died of cancer and the foundation has partnered with Maggie’s to drive forward the campaign to turn the Aberdeen Maggie’s Centre into a reality.
Sharon O’Loan, Appeal Director at Maggie’s, said, “We are thrilled that JCI Aberdeen chose the Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal as its charity of the year. Having already raised almost £1500 at the Grampian Industrialist of the Year event, we look forward to further contribution from JCI Aberdeen to help us raise the funds required to bring a Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre to Aberdeen.”
The JCI Aberdeen quiz night and disco in aid of the Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal will take place on Friday 24 June from 7.30pm-1.00am in the Richard Donald Suite at Pittodrie. Tickets cost £15.00 per person for teams of five. For more information or to book email: community@jciaberdeen.org.uk.
