JCI ABERDEEN PROVIDES INSIGHT INTO EXPERIENCES OF CITY’S TOP BUSINESSMENToday (Friday 15 April) members of Junior Chamber International (JCI) will come from as far as Ghana and Lier to hear some of the north-east’s most successful businessmen share their corporate experiences at the JCI National Conference in Aberdeen.
Sir Moir Lockhead, founder of First Group, George Yule, executive chairman of ROMAR International Ltd and former chief executive at Dominion Gas, and Andrew Laing, deputy chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management, will discuss the trials and tribulations they encountered whilst building a thriving global company.
2011 JCI Aberdeen President Steven Wilson, an accountant with Aberdeen Asset Management, said: “It will be an honour to have three of the Scotland’s best respected and most accomplished industrialists give us an insight into their corporate history. It’s a great way to put Aberdeen on the map as a city where small business start-ups can become multinational market leaders.”
“We are delighted to be welcoming JCI members from all over the world as well as a healthy number of JCI Aberdeen members. The panel session will provide a great opportunity for our delegates to spark their own entrepreneurial inspiration and learn business basics from those who know best.”
“We are so grateful for the support of local companies in organising the conference; those involved in the panel session and those who have helped to shape the weekend’s events. These generous organisations play a vital part in developing our young professionals.”
The 3-day event will begin tonight (Friday 15 April) with a public speaking and debating competition. Prior to tomorrow’s panel discussion, training sessions will be hosted by JCI’s European Vice President Ismail Haznedar and JCI Leeds’ Emma Eastwood. Saturday will culminate in a black tie gala dinner and awards ceremony at the conference hotel, The Park Inn. Proceeds from Saturday night’s raffle will go to JCI Nothing But Nets, a global campaign to fight malaria. The weekend will be rounded off with a farewell Sunday brunch and also the opportunity to attend an official JCI training course, designed to help participants improve their presenting skills.
A Senator programme will be in place for JCI alumni.
