JOHNSTON CARMICHAEL APPOINTS A NEW HEAD OF ITS GREEN ENERGY TEAM

Scotland’s largest independent firm of chartered accountants and business advisers, Johnston Carmichael, has appointed Jamie Ritchie as head of its green energy team to drive forward its continued growth in the sustainable energy sector.

Mr Ritchie is a Director in Johnston Carmichael’s Corporate Finance team based in Aberdeen and this additional role will utilise his banking experience which he gained as a director with the Clydesdale Bank.

Johnston Carmichael’s Chief Executive, Sandy Manson, said: “Green energy is a key growth sector in the Scottish economy and we have built up our significant expertise and experience in the sector through advising clients on a wide ranging number of green energy projects including; wind turbines, hydro power plants, wood pellet and briquette production, water treatment, geothermal technology and solar energy.

“One of the key issues facing green energy projects is funding and as a former director of a major Scottish bank, Jamie has the knowledge and experience to guide clients through the funding obstacle course. In addition to funding expertise, the green energy team also has the tax and accounts knowledge to provide our clients with a comprehensive package to help them deliver successful green energy projects. We have seen significant growth in recent years in the number of projects being undertaken and believe this trend will only continue. We will continue to invest in this key sector for the Scottish economy and our business.”

Mr Manson added: “Jamie’s extensive experience of working with clients in the oil and gas industry, coupled with our own experience of working with our green energy clients, such as Aberdeen Heat and Power for the past seven years on their combined heat and power (CHP) technology projects in the city, means we are well-positioned to provide the expert financial advice required in what is a rapidly expanding area of the energy market.”

Mr Ritchie has a high level of experience of working with clients in the oil and gas sector, including those who have branched out into renewable energy – and will now spearhead the promotion of the firm’s green energy expertise going forward.

Mr Ritchie said: “Our existing Johnston Carmichael clients produce around 48 Megawatt hours of power – enough fuel for 27,000 homes. As green technology develops, we are continuing to build on our knowledge and expertise in the energy sector and are committed to delivering an integrated solution to meet the needs and add value to those involved in green energy.”

Johnston Carmichael has offices in Aberdeen, Inverness, Edinburgh, Fraserburgh, Elgin, Glasgow, Forfar, Huntly, Inverurie and Perth, and currently employs more than 420 people throughout the country.
