KONGSBERG MARITIME PLEDGES LONG-TERM SUPPORT FOR WESTDYKE BOYS CLUB, WESTHILL

Leading marine technology company Kongsberg Maritime Ltd has today announced its long-term support for Westdyke Boys Club, with an agreement that will see the company roll-out training kits for all teams in the coming years. This follows Westdyke recently becoming the first club in the North of Scotland to be awarded the Community Club Award from the Scottish Football Association. This award is presented to clubs which actively encourage players to perform at their highest level while also developing a sense of community belonging in the club.

Kongsberg Maritime’s sponsorship commitment more than doubles its current support for the youth football team based in Westhill. The company has sponsored Westdyke Boys Club since 2010, when it first became Training Sponsor for the under-14 squad. The 2011-2012 season will see support extended to 2 further youth teams, with the additional teams to follow.

Brian Bridgwater, Westdyke Boys Club President, says, “We are delighted that Kongsberg Maritime have chosen to continue supporting Westdyke over the next few seasons. The sponsorship allows us to roll-out the training kit to other squads, starting with the under-13’s, ensuring that we maintain consistency, quality and a professional image throughout the club. Knowing we have the support of Kongsberg Maritime allows us to focus on putting the best training and development in place to bring our young, up and coming players through to the next level.

“Both squads have had a strong start to the season, the under 13’s have reached the qualification section of the A league and the under 14’s have reached the third round of the Scottish Cup. Westdyke Boys Club is proud to be associated with Kongsberg Maritime and we are confident with their continued support the club will continue to go from strength to strength.”

David Shand, General Manager – Offshore at Kongsberg Maritime adds, “When we opened our training centre in Westhill we were keen to support local community initiatives and getting involved in Westdyke Boys Club was a great way to do so. After seeing the success last year, this season we wanted to increase our support across the club and suggested rolling out the training kits to all squads in the upcoming seasons.

“Westdyke is a great club, run by a team of dedicated volunteers who invest a huge amount of time and effort not just in their players but also in the local community. Everyone at the club is dedicated to ensuring players get access to excellent coaching and facilities, and we are happy that we can play some part in contributing to their achievements. We wish all teams the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
