Law Firm McGrigors Confirm Merger TalksScottish legal firm McGrigors has confirmed it is in talks over a potential merger with Pinsent Masons. With more than 100 partners and 700 staff, McGrigors is Scotland’s largest law firm by turnover and has offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Belfast, Doha and the Falkland Islands.
The firm recently announced its 50 strong Aberdeen team would move to a new 16,000 fq ft headquarters in the city’s Queens Road in the summer ahead of a planned expansion which would add up to a further 30 staff.
Pinsent Masons has six offices in England and Scotland and a further four offices in Asia and one in the Middle East.
If the deal goes ahead the combined revenues of both firms, based on 2010-11 turnover, would be £282 million, ranking the new outfit as 12th in the UK Top 50 legal firms with around 1500 lawyers and 400 partners.
A joint statement issued by the firms said: "We can confirm that Pinsent Masons and McGrigors have been in discussions about ways in which both firms can work together to look at how we can bring a wide range of legal services to our respective clients, as well as improve their delivery.
“Both firms complement each other well, being leaders in the field of construction, energy and infrastructure. A potential tie-up would greatly benefit the clients of both firms, providing a wealth of market-leading expertise across a number of sectors and practice areas.
“It would also provide a strong platform upon which to grow internationally, with a continued focus in Europe, the Gulf and Asia PacificWe will be spending the coming days speaking to our partners and staff about the proposals and will not be making any further comment at this time."
McGrigors’ Aberdeen office is recognised as a leading player in the UK and international energy sector, with a strong presence in the corporate, employment, HSE and real estate sectors.
