Leadership dynamics

A man who skied more than 470 miles across Antarctica to reach the South Pole is the motivational speaker at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce’s first business breakfast of 2012.

Dr Ed Coats was part of a team along with double Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell and TV presenter Ben Fogle who took part in the 2009 BBC documentary On Thin Ice. The trio had little cross-country skiing ability and no polar experience but had to ski for 16 hours a day in temperatures of -50C, battling a range of conditions along the way, in a race to reach the Pole.

It’s a far cry from his day job as an obstetrician and gynaecologist in the maternity unit in a Bristol hospital. The common ground between the two is the need for effective teamwork and over the years Ed has been part of a wide variety of teams, understands the importance of teamwork and has a keen interest in their psychology, dynamics and leadership styles.

Designed to help you begin the new year with a positive “can do” attitude, the Leadership Dynamics breakfast, which will be held at Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre on Thursday, January 19, gives delegates the opportunity to find out more about individual and collective responsibility and learn now to form efficient and effective bonds within an organisation.
