Ledingham Chalmers LLP saddles up to support local racing team

ABERDEEN’S Granite City Racing Team (GCRT) has been given a financial boost as it gears up for another year of success.

Scottish regional law firm Ledingham Chalmers LLP has renewed its sponsorship of the team, providing more than £2,000 to cover race equipment costs and support its membership of national governing body, Scottish Cycling.

GCRT has become one of the most successful teams in the north-east since being founded in 2007, and continues to be run by its [14]-strong group of riders.

It features experienced riders Alister Watt, Bob Brown, Brian Duncan, Phil Duncan, Phil Allan, Mark Higgins, Stephen McIntosh, Norman Skene, Sean Monaghan, Keith Robertson, , Veli-Matti Raikkonen, Roman Bardzik, Callum Smith and has recruited up-and-coming racer Craig Wallace.

GCRT rider Alister Watt said: “We are delighted that Ledingham Chalmers has renewed its sponsorship as it helps us to continue to play our part in developing the reputation of cycling in the north-east at a national level.

"We are all passionate about the sport and it is fantastic to be able to attract and work with talented young riders such as Craig Wallace.”

Recent recruit Wallace, 16, is currently the leading junior in premier road race challenge the Scottish Renewables Super Six Series, and has been shortlisted for the Youth Commonwealth Games later this year.

Wallace will also travel to Belgium this summer to compete in two races as part of the national Scottish junior team.

Finnish-born Raikkonen, twice winner and former course record holder of the Etape Caledonia, is an employment lawyer with Ledingham Chalmers.

As well as members' competition commitments, GCRT is also involved in organising and promoting races in the north-east and supports local charities.

Steve Morrice, partner at Ledingham Chalmers, said: “The Granite City RT has had a highly successful few years and we are really pleased to be able to help the team continue to

compete at the highest level, supporting local riders in national and international events."
