Magma Products launches integrated solution for managing commissioning and start-up

International engineering consultancy Magma Products has developed and introduced a new technology-led system to enhance safety and efficiency during key phases of offshore oil and gas production projects.

The Completion Hand Over Management System (CHOMS) is a web-based tool designed to capture all completion and certification data for all parts of any individual project.

The multi-purpose system, with a project management ‘dashboard’ as its centrepiece, generates improved visibility and accessibility of relevant data during the complex commissioning and start-up phases.

Magma Managing Director Paul Rushton said: “CHOMS is an alternative solution to the traditional paper or spreadsheet based means of maintaining an overview of progress as individual elements of the project are constructed and tested.

“It can present a ‘live’ view of the status of certification and completion across a project environment that typically features multiple contractors, and thus multiple systems. This information is displayed on a ‘dashboard’ indicator, and enables users to see a complete picture of project status, allowing early intervention to solve potential problems.

“The bottom line is that by creating a single view of all project activity that supports better decision-making and judgment-forming, the safer the start-up phase as well as an effective, auditable handover.”

Data can be uploaded directly to the CHOMS system by individual contractors or via a single point in the project team.

“The system effectively provides the means for creating new synergies across the contractor and sub-contractor community in any project scenario,” added Paul Rushton.

“CHOMS’ value lies not only in the start-up of new production activities but also, for example, in managing multiple brownfield modification projects by maintaining an overview of the completion status across the entire asset.”
