Making Waste Work at WorkLocal environmental charity, Aberdeen Forward, has launched a corporate recycling scheme to encourage employees of local organisations to recycle at work. The project involves running waste aware sessions in the workplace and providing an outlet for employees to dispose of recyclable goods, such as clothes, textiles and books. Aberdeen Forward will then collect these goods and re-use or dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner. All funds raised will go towards supporting the charity’s volunteer programme, with some funds also going to another local charity, the New Hope Trust. ‘Waste at Work’ was officially launched yesterday (Thursday 23rd June) as part of National Recycle Week (20th-27th June). The project, which will run across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire, has already seen an interest from local firms. Lynn Smith, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Forward said: “This project is all about raising awareness of recycling and making it as easy as possible for people. By holding a ‘waste aware’ event to staff and explaining how easy it is to do, we hope to encourage them to do what they can and bring in their unwanted clothes, textiles and goods from home to recycle.” Aberdeen Forward is calling for other businesses in the area to get involved and to do their bit to help the environment.
