MMS poised for growth with four new partners

Maclay Murray & Spens LLP (MMS), the leading UK commercial law firm, has further reinforced its commitment to targeted growth with two lateral partner hires and two internal partner promotions. The move sees Wayne O'Neil join MMS’ London corporate team from Rosenblatt Solicitors, Douglas Blyth rejoining MMS’ Glasgow commercial dispute resolution team from HBJ Gateley and the promotion of commercial property lawyer Alex Coulter, based in MMS’ London office, alongside litigation solicitor advocate, Euan Palmer.

The announcement follows last month’s hire of ex-Pinsent Mason partner, Darius Lewington, to MMS’ London corporate team.

Robert Laing, chairman of MMS, said: "We are making a significant commitment to strengthening key areas of our business and the appointment of five new partners over the past two months underscores the firm’s ability to attract and grow considerable talent. Furthermore, it represents a significant step-up in the firm-wide capabilities we can offer our clients.”

Wayne O’Neil was formerly with Freshfields and Speechly Bircham, before joining Rosenblatt Solicitors. He has developed a strong practice around private equity, having acted for VCT funds, VCT fund managers, private equity houses and venture capitalists, in addition to M&A and debt finance. Wayne will be based in MMS’ One London Wall office.

Douglas Blyth, who originally trained at MMS, returns to the firm’s Glasgow commercial dispute resolution team after two years with HBJ Gateley. Douglas has a significant track record in commercial litigation, dispute resolution and mediation, with particular emphasis on insolvency and professional regulation, both in the UK and internationally.

Alex Coulter joined MMS as an assistant, following the merger with City Law, in 2004 and has wide-ranging commercial property experience. He specialises in the real estate aspects of corporate recovery and insolvency, investment and development work and is active in property fund asset management for institutional investors.

Euan Palmer first qualified and practiced in New Zealand, later cross-qualifying in England and Wales. Having joined MMS in 2004, he has wide experience of commercial litigation in the High Court in England and in international arbitration, and acts for clients across a number of sectors with particular focus on the oil & gas industry.
