Motorists advised of new two-way traffic flow to help ease city centre congestionPalmerston Road is set to have its one-way operation turned into two-way traffic next Tuesday [01 Nov] to help peak time traffic exit from the city’s Union Square shopping centre. Palmerston Road currently operates one-way between Market Street and Stell Road. However a section of the one-way system will be revoked from next Tuesday and traffic will be allowed to travel in both directions between the access to Union Square and Stell Road.
The change has been introduced to allow easier access to and from Union Square during peak times and will help with congestion levels on Market Street and internally within the retail park.
The new system will allow vehicles leaving via the Palmerston Road exit from Union Square to turn right and away from the more heavily congested Market Street. It is hoped the new system will assist the traffic flow southbound and westbound from the city centre.
Signage detailing the change is being erected by council staff this week and, weather permitting, white lining work to clearly mark out the new road system is expected to be completed next Monday [31 Oct].
Existing users of the Palmerston Road area are advised to be extra vigilante when the new two-way system is introduced. 140 views
