Nativity scene to return to Aberdeen

Aberdeen’s City Council’s nativity scene will go on view at 11am on Monday 28 November in the kirkyard of the Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting, Union Street.

A call to worship by the Kirk’s Reverend Stephen Taylor will be followed by an unveiling of the nativity scene by Councillor Jennifer Stewart.

Children from Robert Gordon’s School, St Peter’s School and St Joseph’s School and the Holy Family School will perform Christmas Carols.

There will be a blessing of the Nativity scene by the Bishop of Aberdeen the Right Reverend Hugh Gilbert OSB.

The Nativity scene includes baby Jesus in his crib, Mary, Joseph, the three Kings, an observer and a shepherd.

Aberdeen City Councillor Martin Greig said: "Christmas is always a time for celebrations and socialising. Aberdeen's Nativity scene is a welcome and important reminder of what these activities and fun are all about. It is a lovely scene for conveying the wonderful message of Christmas. I am particularly pleased that it is being hosted in this prominent location and I hope that as many people as possible will come and see this special scene."

Aberdeen City Councillor Jennifer Stewart added: “This is a wonderful scene that reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas. There is a real danger of losing sight of the real reason we celebrate Christmas. It is important to bear in mind that this is essentially a Christian festival. The nativity scene represents the peace and the happiness of the festive season.

“I hope that many people, especially children, will come and visit the scene over the next few weeks as part of their enjoyment of the Christmas period.”
