Natural Energy Show back at Thainstone for third yearThe Natural Energy Show is back for a third year this weekend (October 8) to showcase renewable energy and energy efficiency options for homes and small businesses. The event at Thainstone, Inverurie promises to be bigger and better than ever and this year also hopes to attract farmers and community groups.
Aberdeenshire Council and the Energy Saving Trust are organising and running the event, taking over from Aberdeenshire Environmental Forum.
Installers of a range of renewable technologies will be on hand to demonstrate their wares and there will be a series of talks in the Thainstone concourse covering the basics of each technology.
Renewable energy development co-ordinator at Aberdeenshire Council, Eric Wells, said: “I expect solar PV to be high on the agenda and we have a number of local exhibitors who specialise in installing the technology.
“These include Solar Scotia based in Kintore, Monarch from Sauchen and Regentech, who recently joined forces with Richard Irvin, based at Altens in Aberdeen, to form Richard Irvin Sustainable Energy.”
Other local companies include Active Sustainable Energy, who cover a range of technologies but are probably best known for ground and air-source heat pumps, recently opening new offices in Aberdeen.
Ian Cowe from the Forestry Commission will be on hand to discuss wood fuel options alongside a number of suppliers, including Puffin Pellets of Boyndie.
Wood fuel boiler installers will be there, including Athol Duckett of AD Heating (Fyvie), and there will also be a number of external exhibits, including wind turbines.
Though these are only some of the exhibitors, it gives a flavour of the quality of installers and expertise we now have in the North East.
The Energy Saving Trust will have a stand at the show offering advice to householders and small businesses on a wide range of energy efficiency measures.
Christine Stewart, marketing manager at the Energy Saving Trust’s north-east Scotland advice centre, said she expects attendance to be even greater than last year.
“We can look forward to the Government’s ‘Green Deal’ for domestic users next year but there has probably never been a better time for householders to install renewable technologies,” she said.
“The interim ‘premium payment’ is available until the Renewable Heat Incentive comes in to effect – come along to the show if you want to learn more.”
Chairman of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee (ISC), Peter Argyle, said: “'I would encourage homeowners, particularly those living in rural parts of Aberdeenshire who have high heating costs, to go along to Thainstone to learn how they can substantially reduce their energy bills - saving money and reducing carbon emissions.
“I am glad to see the Natural Energy Show back for a third year and the council is delighted to be main sponsor this year, alongside the Energy Saving Trust.”
The Natural Energy Show at the Thainstone Centre, Inverurie is open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, October 8 and is free to attend. 83 views
