New award recognises health promotion to infantsA new award which will recognise the good work around health and wellbeing practices within Early Years [pre-school] establishments in Aberdeen will be launched tomorrow [Tuesday, 1 November]. The Aberdeen City Early Years Health and Wellbeing award has been developed by Aberdeen City Council in partnership with NHS Grampian.
The award follows on from the success of Health Promoting Schools awards which are presented to primary schools in recognition of their efforts to promote positive health and wellbeing to pupils, staff, parents and the wider school community.
Within the Early Years setting a health promoting pre-school establishment will aim to provide children aged 1-5 years and their families and carers with healthy food and activities to promote general wellbeing, as these are seen as crucial for the development of children into healthy, confident and well-balanced individuals.
Hilary Young, Service Manager from NHS Grampian, said: “Early Years is an ideal opportunity to form good practices around health and wellbeing, not just for children but also for their families. It is never too early to start teaching someone about health and this award provides an excellent platform for health promotion.”
David Leng, Head of Schools, Aberdeen City Council, added: “Health and Wellbeing starts the moment a child is born, therefore pre-school establishments such as nurseries and childcare establishments have a crucial role to play in encouraging young children and their families and indeed the wider community to be healthy and make informed and healthy choices which will provide healthy individuals for our next generation.” 75 views
