New Chair Appointed

Nestrans, the statutory Regional Transport Partnership for the North East of Scotland, has appointed Councillor Ian Yuill as its new Chair, replacing Kevin Stewart, who resigned from the post following his election as an MSP.

Commenting on his appointment, Ian said. “I’m delighted to have been chosen as the new Chair of Nestrans, an organisation that, working in partnership with Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and others, has a key role in improving transport links within and to and from Aberdeen City and Shire.

“Our area and the businesses in it are vital to the Scottish and UK economies. Any failure by the Scottish or UK Governments to recognise that and invest in improved transport links in and to Aberdeen City and Shire really would be shooting ourselves in the foot. A successful Aberdeen City and Shire is vital to economic recovery in Scotland and the UK. Government needs to recognise this and invest in success - not ignore us and regard us as an unimportant city and region on the periphery of the UK.

“I would also like to welcome Callum McCaig to the board and thank both Kevin, for the excellent work he did as my predecessor, and John Stewart, who has also resigned from the board.”

A councillor for seventeen years and currently representing the Airyhall, Broomhill and Garthdee ward, Ian is a former deputy leader of Aberdeen City Council and was vice president of the UK Liberal Democrats. He has a long standing interest in transportation issues and previously served on the pre-statutory Nestrans. A member of the policy council of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, Ian is also a member of Friends of the Earth and a Chartered Marketer.
