New Chamber President elected

Colin Crosby, a consultant with Brewin Dolphin PLC, has been elected as the new president of Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Crosby, a member of the Chamber's policy council, succeeds outgoing president Mike Salter, who completed his two year term of office at last night's Chamber AGM. Joining him on the Board executive as vice-presidents are Zoe Corsi, a Director of The BIG Partnership and Chris Lloyd, Chief Executive of Steminic Ltd. Colin CrosbyThey succeed retiring vice-presidents Deirdre Michie of Shell and George Mair of First.

"The Chamber represents businesses of all sizes, across all sectors, and the composition of the new executive reflects this," said Mr Salter. "It has an important role to play in representing the business community and working towards continued economic growth and I'm delighted that I'm leaving the role of president in such capable hands. Colin has a wealth of experience in the business world which he'll bring to good use in the post.

"I've really enjoyed working with the Chamber team over the past two years and I'm sure that he will find it equally rewarding."

Awarded an OBE in 1994 for his services to housing, Mr Crosby also chairs the board of Robert Gordon's College, is a newly appointed member of the board of ACSEF and is involved in a number of charities and business organisations.

He said he is looking forward to his term in office: "These are demanding times for all businesses. It is vitally important that the Chamber does everything it can to ensure that the whole business environment is confident and positive.

"To achieve that along with all the Chamber's partners will be challenging and exciting for the president and vice-presidents and I'm looking forward to working with Zoe and Chris to support the very important work which the Chamber does, not only locally but on a national level."

Last night's Chamber AGM also saw businessmen and women from across the North-east, representing all areas of business, re-elected to both the Chamber's board and policy council. Andrew McKinnon of Union Square Developments Ltd was also elected to the Board and new representatives elected to the Chamber's policy council were Bruce Angus, Head of Office at Brewin Dolphin, David Briggs, Executive Director of HR at Robert Gordon University and Bill Duguid, Regional Managing Partner at Ryden.

Members also had the opportunity to take part in a discussion entitled "Looking to the Future', and a Q&A session, facilitated by broadcaster Mark Stevens, with Bob Collier, recently appointed Chief Executive of the Chamber, Mr Crosby, the new president and Tom Smith, chair of ACSEF.
