New Connections for Businesswomen’s NetworkA local women’s business network which has operated in Aberdeen since 1985 unveiled its new operating name and identity at a launch event last night at Aberdeen’s Palm Court hotel. Aberdeen Businesswomen’s Network (ABN) has re-launched as Connect 925 in an aim to support the growing number of female business start-ups, business owners and businesswomen by providing opportunities for like minded women across North East Scotland to connect and network together. “We were keen to address and re-evaluate the network, not only what it should look like for current times but indeed the need for a women’s network in Aberdeen,” said Holly McDonald, president. “The re-launch of the network as Connect 925 aims to address these challenges and we are excited about the potential opportunities it can provide to local businesswomen.” “After research and discussion with members, local businesswomen and associations, there is still a very clear need to provide businesswomen with access to a network where they can gain and share information in a collaborative way, and to stimulate and sustain business development,” added Holly. The role women have in business and the impact they have on regional economies is of increasing interest. There has been an increasing number of women setting up in business, working part-time and focusing on more flexible working patterns. The 680,000 majority women owned businesses in the UK generate £45 billion towards the UK economy, yet there is still much progress which could be made to support more women in business. Local Coordinator of Business Gateway’s Women into Business events, Sam Leys is an advocate for providing focused networking opportunities for women. “We offer support to women starting their own businesses and throughout their first two years of trading. It’s important for women to realise the benefits of networking and building relationships with like-minded businesswomen; Connect 925 can offer that ongoing support and network for local women to continue to develop their businesses.” For further information about the network or forthcoming events please visit www.connect925.co.uk
