New tourism campaign promotes autumn and winter in Aberdeen City and ShireInspiring ideas are part of the national tourism organisation’s marketing campaign, Surprise Yourself, which aims to highlight the more surprising aspects of Aberdeen City and Shire to visitors in the coming months. The latest phase of the Surprise Yourself campaign in the region sees a new direct mail campaign targeting over 60,000 people, and sales promotions and media promotions specifically tailored for both Aberdeen City and for Aberdeenshire. The Surprise Yourself campaign is also being heavily promoted in VisitScotland’s network of information centres across the country.
These promotions have been created by VisitScotland in partnership with Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council, and aim to both encourage those who may already be familiar with the area to discover more of what the region has to offer during the autumn and winter months and to attract new visitors to Aberdeen City and Shire.
The glossy, ten-page promotional insert will be part of the national Surprise Yourself direct mail campaign and highlights some of the many attractions and events in the region, including Crathes Castle, Craigievar Castle, Bennachie, Crovie village, the Silver Darling Restaurant in Aberdeen, Aberdeen Art Gallery and the fireball ceremony in Stonehaven at Hogmanay.
The sales, media and direct mail promotions for Aberdeen City and Shire in particular aim to showcase aspects such as food and drink, the outdoors, wildlife, history and heritage, winter festivals, golf, walking, and the area’s spectacular coastline. As well as attracting new visitors to the region, it is also hoped that the surprising twists on the region’s iconic attractions will lead to repeat visitors as they see it in a new light.
Shona Anderson, VisitScotland Regional Director for Aberdeen City and Shire, said:
“Aberdeen City and Shire is a fantastic place to visit at any time of the year and we are encouraging more visitors to come this autumn and winter to experience the rich and varied landscape and the array of things to see and do here. The quirky and more unusual facts related to the region are being promoted as part of our national campaign, Surprise Yourself, which has already proved to be very popular.”
Belinda Miller, Head of Economic Development for Aberdeenshire Council, said: "Aberdeenshire has so much to offer the tourism industry, and this campaign allows us to highlight the wonderful and varied opportunities and activities that exist for both those who visit the area and those who live here to enjoy. I would encourage both residents and visitors to the area to take the time to find out what there is to do over the autumn and winter months in Aberdeenshire, the area is stunning at this time of year with the autumn colours and winter frosts so wrap up and enjoy the sights."
