Aberdeen City Council is inviting comments from the public on a new document reviewing one of its key conservation areas.

The city has a fantastic legacy of historic buildings within its conservation areas, ranging from the Georgian engineered city centre to Victorian residential suburbs, medieval Old Aberdeen and the planned fishing village of ‘Fittie’.

Each one is unique with its own distinctive character and pattern of development.

Conservation areas are not just about historic buildings. Road patterns, streets, trees and the public realm all help to create the character of an area.
Aberdeen City Council is reviewing its conservation areas, their boundary areas and is also looking at how best to manage them.

It has already produced character appraisals for eight of its conservation areas and an overarching management plan to protect and enhance them.

Building on that work, the City Council has now produced a draft character appraisal for Footdee Conservation area.

This provides guidance for the public and developers alike.

To find out more, there will be a public drop-in session on Thursday, October 15, from 4pm-7pm at the Gospel Hall (rear entrance), New Pier Road, Footdee.

We are inviting comments on the draft document over a six-week consultation period, which will run from Monday, October 12 to Friday, November 20.
