RGU gearing up for summer Undergraduate Open Day

Robert Gordon University (RGU) will hold an Undergraduate Open Day in June for prospective students to learn more about the wide range of career-focussed degree level courses available.

The free event will take place on Saturday, June 18 from 10am to 3pm at the university’s Garthdee campus.

Each of RGU's three faculties will be present with representatives on hand from the university’s courses, which are ranked highly for graduate prospects, including architecture, engineering, health and life sciences to business, journalism, hospitality, law, social work and art.

Members of staff will be available to discuss courses, talk about finance, careers, services, facilities, accommodation and answer questions on how to apply.

RGU’s Undergraduate Open Day will coincide with the Gray’s School of Art Degree Show and the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment End of Year Show which showcase the best work of students at Undergraduate and Masters levels.

Open Day visitors will get an opportunity to view the student exhibitions at both shows which reflect the broad spectrum of work undertaken by the schools across art, design, architecture and built environment disciplines.

Prospective students looking to study a health or social care related degree will get an opportunity to tour the university’s Clinical Skills Area where volunteer patients will be present to demonstrate the practical aspects of undergraduate study.

The laboratories in the School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences will also have demonstrations throughout the day. Clinicians from NHS Grampian will be present to talk with prospective candidates about the roles and opportunities which are available to them once they have completed their training.

Aberdeen Business School will also have demonstrations running throughout the day in its TV and radio studios, as well as a Criminal Court reconstruction in its moot court room for prospective law students to learn more about pleas and mitigation. There will also be a digital fashion show screening, showcasing the work of current fashion management students.

Michael Greenhalgh, RGU’s interim director for marketing, communications and student recruitment, said: “Open days are an important part of the process when choosing a university.

“Our open days are your chance to experience the university's stunning riverside campus featuring modern buildings and state-of-the-art facilities, learn more about our courses and find out why we are the top university for graduate employment in the UK.

“Visitors will get a first-hand insight into student life at RGU as current students will be on hand to talk about their university experience including the accommodation options across the city.

“Prospective students will also get an opportunity to view our art and architecture shows which are a highlight in the academic calendar, exhibiting the best work of students from Gray’s School of Art and the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture.”

Those who attend the Undergraduate Open Day will also have the opportunity to:

  • Talk to a course leader about study opportunities on degree level courses
  • Find out about routes to RGU, including Degree Link with local colleges
  • Get information on the university’s scholarship and funding opportunities
  • Have one-to-one guidance on careers, placements, student finance and admissions

Buses touring the city will be available every hour throughout the day from the Garthdee campus. Free shuttle buses will also be operating frequently to transport visitors to and from the train station starting from 9am.
