A group of computing students at Robert Gordon University (RGU) has helped to design a new website for the Lord-Lieutenant of Kincardineshire.
Brandon Torrie (20), Piotr Starzec (21), Adrian Grzywaczewski (25) and Yoan Montoya (20) worked together on the project, which is part of RGU’s Talent Exchange initiative, to design the website for current Lord-Lieutenant of Kincardineshire, Carol Kinghorn.
The Talent Exchange programme is a new initiative which provides opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to access the skills and knowledge of RGU students in ways that are tailored to the specific needs of an organisation.
The students, who used the university’s high tech digital incubation hub to carry out the work and host client meetings, built a cross-platform website under the direction and supervision of senior lecturer Liz Coulter-Smith and said they had learnt a lot from the process.
Brandon, who studies Digital Media, said: “The experience of working with real clients is incredibly valuable, as was learning how to work with programmers in commercial work.
“We wanted to make a website that was far better than the others out there and I am very happy about the work my team has done for the Lord-Lieutenant. I feel I have now got a solid basis of how commercial projects are done and hope to achieve expertise in this field.”
Mrs Carol Kinghorn, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Kincardineshire, said: “We are tremendously pleased with the result of the website. It is very user friendly, it is easy to navigate and the fact that you can access it from various platforms is great. It is exactly what we wanted.
“I think the Talent Exchange programme itself is a brilliant idea. It has certainly helped us and I hope the students have benefitted from working on real projects outside of university.”
