Eric and Finlay are widely regarded as leading lawyers in their specialist fields and have built formidable reputations for delivering on international projects on behalf of clients in the oil and gas, wider corporate and public sectors.
Eric, who has joined Brodies' Glasgow office, is a corporate lawyer of more than 25 years' standing. A specialist in mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures and international franchising, he also regularly advises clients in the food and drink industry and in the public sector on corporate structures. Eric, who was head of the franchising group at his previous firm, is commended in the Chambers UK independent legal directory as a lawyer who "genuinely has his clients' interests at heart".
Finlay, who joins Brodies' Aberdeen office next month, has more than 20 years' experience in the oil and gas sector, having worked both in private practice and in-house with a multinational oil and gas services company. Finlay, who is qualified in Scottish and English law, joins Brodies from a legal practice in Aberdeen where he led the firm’s oil and gas supply chain business. This involved supporting operators and service contractors in the UK, Europe, Africa and the Middle East on oil and gas exploration and development projects and operations. Finlay is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and the International Bar Association.
Finlay's arrival coincides with that of Gill Grassie, the leading intellectual property rights protection lawyer, who joins Brodies on 13 August as a partner, following the earlier arrival of contentious IP specialist Robert Buchan in March.
Bill Drummond, Managing Partner of Brodies, said: "We are delighted that senior lawyers of the calibre of Eric and Finlay are joining our excellent corporate and oil & gas teams. They will both play a crucial role in helping us deliver top-tier legal services to clients in every sector of the Scottish economy to help them achieve their commercial objectives both in the UK and overseas.
"Finlay will be a great addition to our rapidly-expanding oil & gas team in Aberdeen and his considerable expertise in putting together contractual offshore supply chain documentation will be of tremendous benefit to our growing number of oil and gas service sector clients. Eric has earned a justified reputation as one of Scotland's top corporate lawyers. His ability to put in place often complex Scottish, UK and international deals, together with his expert knowledge of franchising and unremitting client focus, will enhance significantly our service to companies looking to grow their operations at home and abroad."
