NORTH EAST BUSINESSES URGED TO SUPPORT CITY PARADE

Local businessman, James Milne, is urging the North-east’s corporate sector to get behind a unique summer parade.

The Balmoral Group’s chairman and managing director, Mr Milne has signed up to support the Celebrate Aberdeen parade which aims to highlight the achievements and diversity of the city’s third sector.

The parade, which takes place on Saturday 11 June, will see thousands of employees, volunteers and beneficiaries of Aberdeen’s many charities, social enterprises and volunteering organisations unite in a spectacular gathering that will take place on Union Street, from Albyn Place to the Castlegate. They will be joined on the day by a host of street performers, musicians and local celebrities.

Mr Milne has pledged to support the involvement of Balmoral’s official charity - Friends of ANCHOR - in the parade. To date he has been joined by over 80 local businesses who have signed up to support the third sector’s participation.

Mr Milne commented: “Celebrate Aberdeen will provide a fantastic opportunity to highlight the tireless work that is carried out by the city’s third sector. It is also a chance to say thank you to the public for their support.

“We know from our ongoing partnership with Friends of ANCHOR the positive role that businesses can have in supporting the vital work of the third sector. I would therefore urge other businesses in the region to get behind the parade and help spread the word of the achievements of these wonderful organisations.”

Local businessman and member of the volunteer committee behind the parade, Johnston Carmichael’s Iain Abernethy, said: “We are delighted at the support that is coming in from the region’s business community. However, with well over 130 third sector organisations signed up to take part, we need more businesses to come on board to help ensure that every type and size of charity, social enterprise and volunteering organisation is able to take part.”

The strategic committee behind Celebrate Aberdeen is continuing to call out to all North-east businesses to sign up to sponsor a third sector organisation’s participation in the parade. Those interested should contact Mackenzie PR on 01224 580188 or by email via info@mackenziepr.co.uk.
