NORTH-EAST POPULATION STILL KEEP IT NORTHSOUND 1 AND NORTHSOUND 2Northsound 1 and Northsound 2 are still the undisputed radio stations of choice for almost the population of the North-east, according to the latest industry figures released today (Thursday, February 4). Northsound 1 remains the market leader in Aberdeen City and Shire, with the Greigsy at Breakfast show continuing to hold top position as the programme of choice for morning listeners. Northsound 2’s reach and market share have also increased from the previous year. The latest RAJAR figures, which cover the last quarter of 2009, demonstrate that Northsound 1 and Northsound 2 have a combined weekly reach of 47% of the possible listeners, up from 45% for the same quarter in 2008. The stations’ combined market share is up to 29.6%, compared to 27.5% a year ago. Northsound 1’s reach was 39%, down slightly (1%) from last year, but market share rose to 21.2% from 20.4%. Northsound 2 achieved an increase in reach to 18% (up from 15% last year) and 8.5% market share, up from 7.4%. Northsound’s Station Director Cathy Kirk said: “This is another great set of figures for us, proving that Northsound 1 and Northsound 2 are still the radio stations of choice for the people in the North-east. “Northsound 1 is the current market leader and most of the shows – particularly Greigsy at Breakfast – are also the leaders in the local market. These results are once again testament to the loyalty of our listeners across the North-east and beyond.” Chris Thomson, Northsound’s Programme Director, added: “Compared to this time last year, Northsound as a whole is up on both reach and share, which proves we are continuing to go from strength to strength after nearly 30 years at the heart of the North-east community.” Northsound 1 can be found at 96.9FM and Northsound 2 at 1035MW and on digital or log on to www.northsound1.com or www.northsound2.com
