North-east Recycling Company Makes Award ShortlistA North-east organics recycling company has secured a finalist position for a prestigious award in recognition of waste management. Keenan Recycling, based in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, has been short-listed for an award from Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) in the Waste & Resources category.
The VIBES award recognises companies that have taken significant steps to reduce their impact on the environment. Keenan Recycling is one of six finalists in the category, with the winner being announced at a ceremony later this month.
Keenan Recycling transforms food and garden waste from local Scottish authorities and North-east businesses into British Standard Industry (BSI) accredited compost at its award-winning £5m facility. The company recently launched a £1.3million expansion in its food waste division, making it the largest vertical composting unit site in the world, jointly with a site in Canada. The firm currently processes in excess of 70,000 tonnes of organic waste per year.
Director of Keenan Recycling, Gregor Keenan, said: “We are proud to be shortlisted for a VIBES award. In the last year the business model has grown to include a unique commercial food waste collection service, which further increases our contribution towards a zero waste society. The VIBES awards recognise companies that are building a better future and we’re proud to be included among them.”
Last month, Keenan Recycling was nominated for an award from the Chartered Institution of Waste Management recognising excellence in waste management facility operating teams. The firm, which was up against some high profile national companies in the category, received a highly commended distinction from CIWM. 156 views
