HIGHLIGHTS 2010

The stars came out to shine when Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce hosted its biggest event of the year.

The 7th Northern Star Business Awards celebrated the achievements and ongoing success of 35 finalists in 12 categories and formally recognised the personal contribution which one individual has made to the North-east.

The gala event at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre drew representatives from across all sectors and from businesses of all sizes.

The first award of the evening was the presentation of a brand new award, the Lifetime Achievement Award which went to Professor Sir Duncan Rice, former Principal and Vice Chancellor of Aberdeen University.

Champion Technologies, a specialty chemical company for the oil and gas industry, had a particularly successful evening winning both of the categories in which they’d been shortlisted – Commitment to People Development and Commitment to Research and Development.

The P&J Arena, more often used for concerts and exhibitions, underwent a star-studded transformation for the evening and in addition to the main focus of the event – the presentation of awards – guests enjoyed a sumptuous three-course dinner and some top class entertainment.

Host for the evening was presenter Gabby Logan who spoke about the challenges which business had faced over the past year and commended the finalists for their achievements.

Magicians Fifth Dimension got the evening off to a magical start when they entertained guests during the welcome reception. Youngsters from Aberdeen Hip Hop School then set the scene for the evening with a fast-paced performance of street dance. The entertainment finale brought the glitz and glamour of the London stage to Aberdeen when West End Encore performed some of the most famous numbers from favourite shows.
