Oil and gas consultancy Magma Products backs Sport Aberdeen with four-figure donation

Oil and gas engineering consultancy Magma Products has backed Sport Aberdeen with a four-figure donation to host a key event on the North-east golfing calendar.

The Magma Products Hazlehead Quaich will take place on both golf courses on August 4 to 7 and is open to men, ladies, seniors and juniors. More than 300 golfers could take part.

Paul Rushton, managing director of Aberdeen-based oil and gas engineering consultants Magma Products, said: “We wanted to support sport in city and in particular Sport Aberdeen. The charitable trust has an important role to play in the good health of Aberdeen and requires assistance from individuals and companies.

“We’re delighted to play our role in backing one of the most prestigious tournaments in the North-east. We hope golfers, young and old, have a great time.”

Graham Morrison, events and projects officer at Sport Aberdeen, said:” We’re delighted Magma Products has decided to back Sport Aberdeen. We would be happy to hear from other businesses looking to support our events.”

Previous winners of the Aberdeen golf tournament, which started in 1926, include former Walker Cup player Sandy Pirie and David Law, who become the first golfer to win both the Scottish boys and men’s matchplay titles in the same season.

Hazlehead Golf Club secretary Roy Witteveen said: “The tournament has a long and proud tradition. We appreciate the support from Magma and we’re delighted the tournament is going from strength to strength.”

As well as events for scratch golfers, there are also handicap competitions across the four categories where strokeplay qualifiers go through to matchplay for a shot at glory.
