Oil Chaplaincy’s offshore charity receives £3,000 donation from SparrowsThe recently appointed UK oil and gas Chaplain, Rev. Martin Grashoff, has received a donation of £3,000 to the Oil Chaplaincy Welfare Trust on behalf of employees of the Sparrows group; the presentation was made by mechanical supervisor Gavin Rose, who revealed that an even bigger bonus could be winging its way to the charity. Sparrows is the Aberdeen-based world leader in offshore lifting solutions. The Oil Chaplaincy Trust is the only charity dedicated solely to supporting current and former employees of the UK’s oil and gas industry who find themselves in hardship, normally through ill health.
In addition to this annual £3,000 donation, Sparrows gives its UK employees an added incentive to achieve safety targets by offering an additional £5,000 donation to the charity when these safety performance objectives are achieved.
Presenting the cheque, Gavin Rose said “I really hope my colleagues and I can achieve those safety goals so that I can come back at the end of the year and give you the extra £5,000.”
In receiving the donation, Reverend Grashoff revealed that, to the best of his knowledge, Sparrows is the only offshore contractor mentioned in the Holy Bible. He said “In Luke’s Gospel, we read ‘Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.’ Well, Sparrows people, and their generosity, will not be forgotten by the Chaplaincy either.”
Doug Sedge, chief executive officer of Sparrows said “The 1500 people who work for Sparrows are all members of the wider oil and gas community. We value the role the Chaplaincy plays, and we welcome this opportunity to support the work of the Chaplaincy Welfare Trust in a way that promotes safety – our top priority – among our workforce.” 166 views
