£5K DONATION FOR CLAN’S CHILDREN’S SERVICES

The Santander Foundation has donated more than £5,000 towards CLAN Cancer Support’s young people’s support services.

The organisation, which funds local, regional and national charities for their work, presented a cheque for £5,331 at CLAN House on Thursday, 24 March. The money will go towards activities for CLAN’s children’s and young people’s support groups, such as outdoor activities, workshops, arts and crafts.

CLAN’s services manager, Yvonne McLellan, said: “We are delighted to receive this generous donation from the Santander Foundation, which will go towards funding activities for children and young people who use our specialised children and family support services.

“These support groups provide an opportunity for children and young people who are affected by cancer – either directly or through a loved one – to make friends with other people in similar situations, which can reduce their feelings of isolation, increase their confidence and self-esteem. The support, alongside the activities that we run throughout the year, are so worthwhile as they provide young people with a chance to have fun and relax, even during difficult times.”

Cairi Dye, branch manager of Santander in Aberdeen, added: “CLAN is a very worthwhile charity that offers a high level of support to children and young people who are affected by cancer. The Foundation is delighted to be able to contribute to CLAN’s ongoing commitment to the local community by presenting them with this donation.”

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which offers support to anyone affected by cancer. Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN is also developing services in the community and now has a presence in Ballater, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Orkney and Shetland.
