PETROTECHNICS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT TO LEAD HSE WORKSHOP AT MIDDLE EAST ENERGY FORUM

The executive vice president of Petrotechnics, Iain Mackay, is to host a risk workshop this week addressing a variety of methods and tools that will enable industry professionals to both understand and manage the combination of factors that can increase the risks associated with frontline work.

There is increasing recognition across the oil and gas industry that serious incidents can be the result of a combination of factors and events. Many of the existing control systems used by the energy sector are unable to manage multiple points of activity and organisations now need to consider the elements that contribute to cumulative risk.

Mr Mackay said: “Industry practices are constantly evolving which means that we need to remain focused on ensuring the implementation of appropriate safety measures.

“Some companies in the industry are still failing to realise the importance of investment into the systems and processes that will enable them to collect the kind of data that allow for a change of operational practice. It is this data that can really reduce potential risk.”

The workshop, Management of Cumulative Risk and Frontline Work Execution will be held at the 7th annual HSE Forum in Energy from 10 to 12 October in Doha, Qatar. Mr Mackay will explore and evaluate the potential factors which can increase operational risk and use operational data to demonstrate the impact that can result from cumulative risk.

Delegates will gain the experience to better manage cumulative risk using a combination of Safe Work Planning, Safe Work Control and Operational Risk Management.

Over seven years, the HSE forum has become a vital platform for sharing insights and experiences, aimed at facilitating global excellence in HSE performance.

Mr Mackay continued: “Conferences like this are vital because they present a platform through which we can discuss the issues facing the sector while also sharing our knowledge of best practice.

The workshop will allow me to present real-time data and information that will engage the audience and provide an exciting environment in which to learn. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge with some of the key players from across the energy sector.”
