Project to help shape Newburgh’s future beginsA project aiming to empower people in Newburgh to have a say on the future of their area gets underway this week. (w/b August 1) Two community action researchers have been employed as part of a project aiming to re-establish a sense of community and clearly identify Newburgh’s aspirations, issues and needs.
It is also intended to offer help and support to current, established community groups.
This will include the identification of key gaps in provision and facilities and the establishment of a sustainable community plan to address local need.
There will be lots of different ways for residents to become involved and have their say.
Firstly, volunteers are sought to become part of the steering group for the project, to make sure locals have a hand in its organisation.
The community action researchers are Lisa Hofford, who has lived in Newburgh for a number of years and has been involved with various community groups over that time, and Jackie Burr, who has previous experience in both community research and working within the voluntary sector.
"We are very lucky to have recruited a really positive team of community researchers for this project,” said Annette Holland, senior community learning and development worker for Aberdeenshire Council.
“They are both passionate about the project and are keen to engage with as many local people and community groups as possible.
“This is a really good opportunity for the people of Newburgh to have their say and help develop and shape future plans that will affect the quality of life in the village.”
In coming months the researchers will be meeting with individuals and community groups.
They hope to engage with families, young people and adults, working with the steering group to gather information.
Alternatively you can contact them by email at: newburgh.research@hotmail.co.uk
The community will be supported in whatever way it identifies as being most appropriate to advance plans resulting from the research by the Formartine Partnership and local community learning and development team.
