Pupils Combined Cadet Force mark RemembranceRobert Gordon’s College Combined Cadet Force marked Remembrance in a number of different ways. On Tuesday 8th November, the Annual CCF Remembrance Service was held in the MacRobert Hall, Schoolhill. This well-attended service was led by Rev. Easter Smart, Chaplain to the University of Aberdeen, and featured a moving and thought-provoking presentation devised by Simon de Lecq Marguerie of S6. Following this poignant service, the contingent paraded in the school campus, with music from the Pipe Band adding to the atmospheric setting in front of the Auld Hoose. The pupils were pleased to welcome Lt Col AR Cram TD, our Honorary Colonel, to inspect the parade.
At a reception in the Governors’ Room after the parade, the Lord Provost presented Sgt Tabitha Smith-Lawrence with a badge and certificate to mark her appointment as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet 2011-2012. Senior Cadet CSM Hugo Mayeux was presented with the Gordon Campbell Sword, generously donated by Mr and Mrs G Campbell in memory of their son, Special Boat Service & Royal Marines Cpl Gordon Campbell, who died during a training accident in 2006 and who was a pupil at the College between 1993 and 1997.
Senior cadets also laid poppies on local war graves of Gordonians who lost their lives in service of their country. This is a developing tradition which, for Robert Gordon’s College, is a significant contribution to Remembrance. 157 views
