Recognition for Aberdeen In Bloom winners

The efforts of Aberdeen residents to bring some colour to their neighbourhoods were praised at an award ceremony this week.

Aberdeen City Council welcomed winners from the 2011 Aberdeen In Bloom Garden Competition to the Town House on Wednesday [28 September] where prizes were handed out by Depute Lord Provost Councillor Bill Cormie.

 

He praised the 61 gardens that were judged over a two-week period in July and thanked sponsors for their support. Entrants were assessed on their design, quality of horticultural features, floral displays, and standards of maintenance. Some categories also involved judging gardens on their sustainable and biodiversity initiatives to conserve energy and encourage wildlife and their habitats.

 

The winners were:

 

• Category 1 – Garden Displays (Bridge of Don, Dyce, Bucksburn, Danestone, Kingswells, Sheddocksley, Northfield, Hilton, Stockethill)

• Category 2 – Garden Displays (Seaton, Tillydrone, Old Aberdeen, George Street, Harbour, Torry, Ferryhill, Kincorth, Loirston)

• Category 3 – Garden Displays (Lower Deeside, Mid Stocket, Rosemount, Airyhall, Broomhill, Garthdee, Hazlehead, Ashley, Queens Cross)
