Renewables expert powers Knight Frank’s Scotland offerGlasgow, UK – An expert in renewable energy has joined international property consultancy, Knight Frank in Scotland to help advise landowners and investors on the unrivalled potential that can be generated from Scotland’s natural resources. Oliver Routledge joined Knight Frank down south as an Associate in August 2010 but as of this month has moved north of the border to work between the Glasgow and Edinburgh offices. He will be responsible for a small team committed to advising on and project managing renewable energy projects including wind , hydro and anerobic digestion schemes. The Scottish Government last year announced that 80 per cent of all Scottish electricity consumption must come from renewable energy sources by 2020, which should provide added incentive for many landowners and investors to develop or capitalise on renewable energy projects as the abundance of resources is so vast in Scotland. Oliver will be advising landowners and investors who are interested in entering into leasing arrangements for renewable projects or developing individual schemes.
He said, “Scotland has an abundance of natural resources which can be harnessed to power profitable renewable energy projects. It won’t be long before we see the majority of electricity being generated from renewable resources and Scotland has the perfect resource mix to achieve this. “As well as being better for our country’s environment, renewable energy generates profit and , jobs, which makes the opportunities in Scotland very exciting.” Oliver started his career as a solicitor with Farrer & Co specialising in agriculture and rural property, following which he was an assistant fund manger at FIM Services Ltd. He has brought a wealth of knowledge in the renewables and energy sector to the Knight Frank team and has considerable experience in the negotiation of leasing arrangements with renewable energy developers, project managing the development of UK onshore wind farms and also operating such assets. Indeed, Oliver and his father are in the process of developing a 100 kW hydro scheme on a water course at their home near Moffat, in Dumfries and Galloway. This scheme will power the residential properties on the farm as well a number of rainbow trout farms, with excess electricity being fed into the grid.
